What is ‘Non-Fiction November’?

‘Non-Fiction November’ is celebrated by Rockerbox News to give your primary school pupils a voice, take pride in their community, and get creative with a national challenge — with non-fiction content accessible at 5+ levels for reading ages of 5-11. It’s free to enter — all you have to do is download your Challenge Pack, which explains how to get involved, how the challenge links to the curriculum, and how to teach non-fiction topics with fun and engaging tips!

Non-Fiction November’ is celebrated by Rockerbox News to highlight the importance of reading for information, give your primary school pupils a voice, and encourage them to take pride in their community — with age-neutral, non-fiction content accessible at 5+ reading levels.


It’s free to enter — all you have to do is login to your free account and download your guide, which explains how to get involved, how the task links to the curriculum, and how to teach non-fiction topics with fun and engaging tips!

How to get involved...

Step 1

Ready for action? Get into research mode...

Unleash their inner explorers by diving into online research, chatting with family, visiting historical sites, and pondering what they can showcase to visitors in their local area. Login to your free Rockerbox News account and check out the articles for inspiration.

Step 2

Time to get creative! Put their findings into words...

Use the questions prompts in the pack to get them in the fun and factual frame of mind. Each pupil can contribute something different to your newspaper or work in small groups, showcasing the must-visit spots in your pupils’ town's history. Login to your free account to get inspiration from similar stories to ace this project and spread the word.

Now you’ve got lots of ideas, your pupils can start to think critically about what they are going to produce. Our Critical Thinking guide will guide your pupils to start to understand bias. Create a mini class 'newspaper' together! What’s so great about non-fiction is that your pupils can include whatever they want — from articles to pictures, recipes and videos.
